Short & Sweet Book Review: The Power of Habit by
This week, we're talking about CHANGE. It can be hard, but it's possible. Here's one of my favorite books on changing habits.
Title: The Power of Habits by Charles Duhigg
One Sentence Summary
This book covers why habits exist, how we can change them, and the importance of habits in our behavior.
You Should Read This If
You need to replace a bad habit (such as not exercising) with a good one (such as exercising).
Favorite Quote
“Change might not be fast and it isn't always easy. But with time and effort, almost any habit can be reshaped.”
Most Helpful Takeaway
The parts of a habit are 1. cue, 2. routine, 3. reward. For example, if I feel irritated (cue), I look at my phone for distraction (routine), and temporarily forget my annoyance (reward). If I want to change that habit, I keep the cue and reward but change the routine. So if I feel irritated (cue), I notice it and go for a walk outside (new routine), and forget my annoyance (reward).
