Embracing Whatever Thanksgiving Brings
Taking that first bite of mashed potatoes with just the right amount of gravy… ahhh. Sitting down and tasting the familiar warmth of a holiday meal can bring up a whole range of emotions.
Maybe Thanksgiving brings you joy, nostalgia, or even a pang of sadness. You might feel frustration from family dynamics or a sense of weariness after a challenging year. You could feel deep gratitude—or maybe gratitude feels out of reach, depending on what’s going on in your life.
My reminder for you today is to give yourself permission to feel whatever you feel. The laughter and the quiet, the frustration and the joy—all have a place at the table.
This Thanksgiving, let’s raise a glass 🥂 to the fullness of life—not just the easy or happy parts. Let’s release expectations, lean into the moment, and savor this day with all its warmth and depth.
Happy Thanksgiving!
PS Thanksgiving can be stressful on its own, without you adding to it. Take a minute to audit to the thoughts that you're having about the holiday, and think about if they're actually true. (Are you actually a failure for bringing a store-bought pie?)
When your brain offers negative thoughts, challenge yourself to come up with a few more versions and then choose the one that makes you feel good, not crummy. (Store-bought pie is tasty! It's made by professionals!) And then go enjoy yourself!
