Why I'm opposed to "no bad days"

Hey {{first_name}},

I’m very optimistic. My nature is more sunshine and rainbows than doom and gloom. But, I do not buy into the idea of “no bad days” and here’s why.

As humans, we are made to feel and express the full spectrum of emotions.

Sometimes life is just sad, or disappointing, or infuriating. And when it is, the worst thing to do is put on a brave face with a fake smile and shove those feelings down.

First of all, they’ll come back. Shoving feelings down never truly gets rid of them. The only way out is through (thank you Alanis Morrissette for your ever-brilliant words).

So if you’re sad, and want to be un-sad, the only way to do that is BE sad.

Investigate it, understand what thoughts are causing it. Don't judge yourself. Allow whatever comes.

In fact, allowing for a "bad day" is the only way to allow a truly good day.

PS If there was a trophy for holding back tears, I could have filled a trophy case. Now, I cry at the drop of a hat and it feels so much better. If you are "Great! I'm great. Everything is fine" 365 days a year, reach out to me. I can help you learn to experience the range of emotions that allows for true joy and contentment.
