Summer Goals 2
This summer, I took off work every Tuesday in order to have a local adventure with my kids. Marking the time as “away” on my calendar was fairly easy. Actually committing to it and walking away from my desk when I had plenty of work to do felt uncomfortable. But I did it! Adventure #2 was HOT but fun.

Here’s our review on Adventure #2: World’s Tallest Ketchup Bottle + Horse Racing + Ice Cream
Mom Rating: 7/10
Kid Rating: 7/10 (Josie age 11), 7/10 (Oliver age 14)
Pros: Oliver gave World’s Tallest Ketchup a 10/10 because it his absolute favorite food. He consumes multiple bottes in a week. Josie gave it a 0/10 because “ketchup is disgusting”. The pro here is that I laughed really hard about the whole thing. Oliver said when he’s old that he’ll be telling his kids the weird things his mom made him do. #winningatparenting
The horse racing at Fairmount Park was fun! The kids liked picking their bet for winning horse (I had to actually place the bets, because gambling is an adult sport 😆). Admission is free. The minimum bet is $2. Josie won $7.50 on a $5 bet. Oliver lost $10 on bets and decided to keep the rest of the money I gave them to spend on bets.
We happened upon a Mexican Bakery & Ice Cream store, which was the most fun surprise. It was delish!
Cons: I mean, you can’t blame Fairmount Park for this, but it was over 100 degrees on the day we went, which made the whole thing rather hot and sweaty. (They do have indoor seating where you can watch the races on TV, and shaded seats outside. It was just so hot that no where was cool!)
Unless Ketchup is your favorite food, I wouldn’t suggest making a day of the world’s tallest ketchup bottle. But it was a fun aside.
Tips: If you do this adventure, get a stack of $1 bills. The minimum bet is $2 per race and it’s fun for kids to be able to bet with their “own money”.
