Client Win: How Amanda Solved Stressful Evenings

My client Amanda is, like many of you, one busy woman! She’s a mom of 2 boys, works full time as successful Real Estate Agent, and is a wife to a sweet husband who works long hours. She is the chief taxi driver for her basketball-loving son and the teacher to her younger son, whom she is currently home schooling. Oh, and she also lives on a farm and raises goats and chickens and cows. For real. When she told me one of the most stressful parts of her day was dinner, we got to work on brainstorming a simple solution. Here are the problems she had:

  1. Due to everything listed above, she did not have a moment all day to prepare dinner. Every day that she aspired to, but did not actually make dinner, added to her frustration.

  2. She is vegan (it’s the goats, they got to her), but her family is not. That makes it difficult to throw together a meal everyone can and will eat.

  3. Her older son often has practice and her husband works late. So having a meal that can be eaten at any time is key.

  4. Guilt. She was holding on to the thought that she should be able to make a healthy dinner every night. She also felt guilt about asking someone to help her, saying “I should be able to do it all, I feel spoiled having someone help me.”

We started by addressing #4, because you need to work through the mindset changes before you can think clearly to come up with a good, practical solution. We turned her thoughts around with a little practice, and soon she was ready to hire someone to help.

Amanda had a friend, another mom, named Kate, who was looking for a way to have an income but still stay home with her small children. Amanda decided to ask Kate if she would be interested in doing meal prep in her own home. That way Kate could be at home, and Amanda wouldn’t have additional chaos in her home/office/school room. Kate loved the idea. They came up with a process where Amanda emails Kate the recipe list on Sunday. Amanda then orders the groceries for pick up on Monday, and pays for them. Kate picks them up, and gets to work on prep. On Tuesday, she delivers meals for the rest of Amanda’s week. The meals are vegan but often have a meat option for the rest of the family. Amanda could not be happier that she has solved a major problem for her family, AND Kate’s family! Win/win!
