Please don't teach the dog to climb on the kitchen counter
Can we all just agree that Moms are pretty amazing? In the course of one day we could easily hug, scold, support, discipline, nurture, discourage, and encourage the same child. Through all of those steps, our love stays true (our level of like and annoyance will vary greatly!). I believe that is the reason that Moms have a special ability to hold opposing thoughts at almost the same time, and know that both can be totally true.
Just for example:
I totally got this! My kids are kinda awesome.
I'm doing this ALL wrong, and I am raising ungrateful spoiled brats.
You are such an agreeable and fun kid!
Unless I ask you to take a shower/leave for school on time/eat a vegetable, then you are a beast.
You are the sweetest, most beautiful, snuggliest person on earth.
You are dirty and stinky and sticky and gross and please get off my couch/comforter/lap.
You are brilliant in a way no one else in the whole world is.
Did I really just have to say "please don't teach the dog to get on the kitchen counter"?
I'm so proud of the kindness you showed to a new friend at school.
The fact that you were shoving your sister in the backseat while I was complimenting your innate kindness is making me question my entire life.
I will go to the ends of the earth to make sure you feel loved and cared for.
Did you seriously just ask me to come in the kitchen from 2 rooms away to get you a glass of water you could get yourself?
And the final one:
It's Mother's Day. I can't wait to celebrate the best gift I've ever been given with my babies!
Would it be terrible to request to spend most of the day by myself in complete peace?
Happy Mother's Day, Mamas! I hope you get to spend the day in a way that's wonderful for you. I see you out there, working hard, holding opposing thoughts, loving your people and taking care of everybody. Great job.
